About Me

My name is Patrick Phillips and I live in Wyoming, New South Wales, Australia which is located about 70km north of Sydney in the Central Coast, just north of Gosford.
I am married and have two boys both of whom have now left home. I now live with my wife and our pet poodle, Jasper.
My interests are Hi Fi, rather obviously, but also music and Zen Buddhism.
I have had many jobs but mostly in the Telecommunications industry. I also ran my own business for a while, ClickOn Computers.
My love for Hi Fi started when I was only a child when I would listen to the radio gram and explorer the shortwave band. I had my first record player when I was ten and my favorite music was The Soul of Spain and Cliff Richards, Summer Holiday.

It was when I left school that I first started to work in the Hi Fi industry for a man called Ron Cooper who had founded Audiosound laboratories on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Ron Cooper was at the time working directly with Neville Thiele of the Australian Broadcasting Commission who together with Richard Small where responsible for the development of the Thiele/Small parameters as used today for all ported speaker designs. This was the early pioneering days of ported speaker development. It was my job to dig the holes in football fields to bury the speakers so that the baffle board was at ground level thus giving a 2 pi space (or infinite baffle as it is called) so that those T/S parameters could be measured.

This than was my introduction to Hi Fi, an interest and a passion I still have today. I hope to be able to offer you the reader some useful insights into Hi Fi and also to help save you some money. There is a lot of big marketing, myths and plan lies out there that can lead to rather expensive purchases that result in little or even no gain in the pursuit of good quality listening and enjoyment of music.
